Those who accepted Islam were persecuted by the polytheists of Makkah. To escape this persecution, the beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, advised the Muslims to migrate to al-Habash (Abyssinia, which is now called Ethiopia). This migration took place in the fifth year of the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. They were given asylum there by the great and pious King of al-Habash named King As-hamah Najjaashi (the Negus). Some of the more well-known of these migrants were:
- Sayyidina ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan
- Sayyidatina Ruqayya bint Rasulillah
(wife of Sayyidina ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan) - Sayyidina Ja’far ibn Abi Talib
(He was the spokesperson before King As-hamah Najjaashi) - Sayyidatina Asma bint ‘Umays
(wife of Sayyidina Ja’far ibn Abi Talib) - Sayyidina Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwaam
- Sayyidina ‘AbdurRahman ibn ‘Awf
- Sayyidina Abu ‘Ubayda, ‘Aamir ibn ‘Abdillah ibn al-Jarrah
- Sayyidina ‘Uthman ibn Maz’un
- Sayyidina Mus’ab ibn ‘Umayr
- Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud
- Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn Jahsh
- Sayyidina Miqdad ibn ‘Amr,
- Sayyidina as-Sakraan ibn ‘Amr
- Sayyidatina Sawda bint Zam’a
(wife of Sayyidina as-Sakraan ibn ‘Amr mentioned above. The beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, married her when she was widowed) - Sayyidina Abu Salama, ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abdul Asad
- Sayyidatina Umm Salama, Hind bint Abi Umayya
(wife of Sayyidina Abu Salama mentioned above. The beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, married her when she was widowed) - Sayyidatina Umm Habiba, Ramla bint Abi Sufyan
(She had gone with her husband ‘Ubaydullah ibn Jahsh. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, married her when she was widowed),
May Allah be pleased with them all. |
